📍 Paphos, Cyprus | Full-time | On-site / Hybrid

💼 Fixed-term contract: 1 year with a 6-month probation period, renewable for up to two additional years.

Lumoscribe® is a Cyprus-based deep-tech SME specializing in advanced optical fiber technologies, including fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), specialty fiber sensors, and novel photonic systems for sensing and laser applications.

We develop proprietary photonic components and integrated systems that serve research institutions, industrial partners, and high-performance sensing markets worldwide.

As our research and development activities expand, we are seeking a Research Scientist in Nonlinear Photonics to contribute to advanced photonic research, scientific publications, and the development of next-generation optical fiber technologies.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a Research Scientist – Nonlinear Photonics to join our research team and contribute to the development of advanced photonic technologies, particularly in the fields of nonlinear fiber optics, optical sensing, and photonic systems.

The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively on experimental and theoretical research activities, contribute to scientific publications, and support the preparation of research proposals for European and international funding programs.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic deep-tech environment where cutting-edge photonics research is closely linked to technology development and real-world applications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Conduct research in nonlinear optics and optical fiber technologies
  • Design and perform photonics experiments and optical system characterization
  • Develop theoretical models and data analysis for nonlinear photonic systems
  • Prepare and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals (e.g., Horizon Europe, EIC, MSCA, national funding)
  • Collaborate with international research partners and project consortia
  • Support the development of innovative photonic technologies and prototypes
  • Maintain proper documentation of research activities and experimental results

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATES

  • PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong background in nonlinear optics and/or fiber optics
  • Proven track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in experimental photonics research
  • Ability to work independently and manage research tasks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with fiber lasers, supercontinuum generation, or nonlinear fiber systems
  • Experience with optical sensing technologies (FBGs, LPGs, interferometers, etc.)
  • Experience in proposal writing for European research programs
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW) for data analysis or experiment control
  • Experience working in international research collaborations
